A few months ago I had an infection that resulted in two minor surgeries and a two-night hospital stay with followup antibiotics and a couple of at-home nurse's visits. Total billing to my insurance was more than $24,000 and, yes, they took very good care of me.

I thank God (and my employer) for the good medical insurance my family enjoys. I work hard, pay in my own part, and we don't waste that coverage on needless visits. But when something serious comes up, we are very glad to have it.

There is no doubt that I got more "care" and more "treatment" from the hospital and doctors because of that good insurance. They were making up for the lack of payments for other patients, I'm sure.

And somewhere there are some illegals smirking about the good medical care they received in a hospital's Emergency Room for which they paid nothing.

A lot of folks don't know this but in 2006 the state of MA created their own subsidized state healthcare. It covered uninsured, and made up for what insurance compaines didn't pay. The MA sold it to the people by saying, "It won't cost that much and everyone will be covered. After listing to the state Treasurer (a liberal Democrat)last night, he said that the program has failed. It has failed firstly because it has nearly bankrupted the state costing way more than the politicials promised. He said if it weren't for Fed stimulus money then MA would be in bankrupscy. Secondly many hospitals are on the verge of going out of business because they are "forced" by the state to treat folks for free and since MA is in financial peril, the hospitals are not getting reimbured 1-for-1. He said about .60 on the dollar.

So how is this going to differ if we have government healthcare? It will bankrupt the country, put hospitals and people out of work, and create huge shortages of provider care.

Oh and did you know the IRS will be running and policing healthcare? It's in the bill!

Polanski's lawyers have been fighting to have the unlawful sex case dropped, alleging judicial misconduct in the original legal proceedings when the judge considered sentencing.

Until this newest legal salvo, it was believed that those allegations were first revealed in a 2008 film documentary about Polanski. But Polanski's attorneys said recent testimony from a key player in 1977 reveals prosecutors knew of the misconduct from the start and concealed it from the defense.

"Now to hear, through entirely new evidence, that high level deputy district attorneys in the summer of 1977 learned of misconduct by the judge in this case and never told the defense about it, that's inexcusable," Polanski's lawyer Douglas Dalton said in a statement.

I have received a couple of anonymous comments that allege things about this commander. I never met her let alone worked with her. She could be either the most qualified or least qualified boss ever.

I would not allow similar anonymous postings that placed officer Cozzi in a bad light and I won’t do it against this accused commander.

Everyone has a right to a fair trial when they get their day in court. For me to publish this material from an anonymous poster is both cowardly and wrong.

I’m not defending more than this woman’s absolute right to a fair trial. I am however dismayed to see a lover’s spat escalate into career ending damage to anyone.

Paul, I live in the Fillmore district, have been here my whole life, got hauled in the back of a '61 Plymouth into the old cop shop on Pulaski and Fillmore Street as a kid for curfew violation. You're taking on the wrong problem here. The problem is women don't know their place any more and men don't have the courage and faith in themselves to put them there. When Big John (as he was known to all who lived on his beat) stepped out into the middle of the intersection of Madison and Pulaski (known as Crawford Avenue then) of an evening rush hour, with the trolleys throwing up sparks around him and impatient crowds of pedestrians waiting to dash from every curb, suddenly everything got calm. All eyes turned to the big man in the long blue coat and we waited as he brought up that whistle. Then he cut loose with a long, blood-curdling blast that could be heard three blocks away, a lusty challenge to all, that said, in unmistakeable terms, I'M IN COMMAND HERE, AND YOU PEOPLE BETTER DO WHAT I SAY! When our streets were patrolled, on foot, by those equipped with swinging dicks, not glided by in cars driven by those with bobbing boobs, we knew real security. I have a huge problem with the Order of Protection mess. Now this woman has been charged with a crime. It will take Due Process, proof beyond a reasonable doubt and an appeal process before there can be punishment.

Paul, you are always one advocating the use of recording technology as a way to protect yourself. That is all this guy did. You do not know this woman but she has been given everything in this Dept and has not had to work for it. I agree with you that most of the orders are based on a he said/she said but this one is different. He has actual recording of her threatening his career. She is known as a vindictive person.

Trust me, this is not one woman who you should stick you neck out for.

The sad part is she was brought into 011 to replace a well likeed and respected commander who actually had the balls to speak his mind to Jody Weis when asked and then was dumped for doing so. She was brought in to be a yes person.

Though I agree with the author to an extent, to me the point is that she is supposedly a commander of police and if the allegation is true, threatened his career.

Now imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and he called her making the same threat, you know damn well he'd be stripped and dropped kicked into callback in no time.

I've seen too many female officers claim that they are equals on this job, but go running to bosses screaming and crying about harassment. I say good for this officer for getting a beef. If he were to have stayed silent regarding the matter he would've gotten screwed over by her big time at some point.
